| Tokyo Mew Mew - Dubbed for fans, or for money? |
|
By: Rayna 2:30 PM I sit snuggly on my couch hosting a copy of my dubbed over Manga - Tokyo Mew Mew. I've been entranced to it for awhile now, having my younger 9 year old sister purchasing it from Chapters. The Manga carries such beautiful artwork, and I felt like I knew the characters well. They were young pre-teens, engaged in saving the Earth as well as looking at how precious our Earth. We need to keep from damaging it, for we may be punished for our actions later on. My thoughts of the book vanish when my little sister hops in waving her arms excitedly. "RAYNA! Tokyo Mew Mew will be on FOX next Saturday!" In all honestly, I had personally enjoyed the Manga far more then the Japanese Anime. However, I was excited and vastly curious as to how it'd work out in English. I took it upon myself to look it up, only to be shocked at what I was seeing. I don't comprehend why I expected the title to remain the same, but as soon as I seen "Mew Mew Power!" I knew. I knew one of my favourite animes had be altered likewise to Sailor Moon and Card Captor Sakura. It would no longer carry the same meanings, or values! It's only means would be to sell the products, and have little girls screaming out : "MOMMY, BUY ME A ZOEY (Ichigo) TOY!!!" Not only that, but as time went on, and the craze ended, many would look back and spit on the anime they had once loved. Just like CardCaptors, Digimon, and Yu-Gi-Oh. Not too many CC fans know the whole actually story behind the Japanese version. There's so much more to Anime then merely battling and collecting. That's what majority of people who don't look into Japanese Anime come to believe. It amazes me how as children instead of attempting to teach us true values, they teach us about stupid things such as being overly obsessed with boys, looking sexy, and saying cheap jokes that make me desire curling up into a ball and dying. 4Kids claim their goal is to get the hottest shows from Japan and distribute it all over the world for children to enjoy. The way they make it seem, it's as though they consider our feelings. Media alters the children so easily. Sure, one could argue back that they must alter the show, for Americans have different customs and cultures then that of the Japanese. If you were to ask me, which you probably wouldn't, I'd say a little Japanese culture is what the kids in America need today. Yes, I know I sound rather old. This rant is nearly finished. I guess I shall tune into Mew Mew Power on Saturday and pray it won't be as corrupt as I think it'll be. However, if it turns out to be a horrid mutant of an anime, I WILL not contribute to watching it. [/Finish_Raynas_rant] |
