Here's another short, short excerpt. >.<

It was probably that really, really old sake' your stupid sensei had goaded you into drinking the night previous.

Or something like that.

Anyways, you were pretty sure you were in a dream. You had to be in a dream, because paradoxical shapes , colors you didn't have names for, and strange, garbled dream language didn't occur in the waking world. Not even your waking world.

The worst part was, you recognized this dream. You've had it dozens of times before. This was only just the beginning.

A swarm of coal-black butterflies flutters pas you. This was it. You closed your eyes. You were entering the nightmare realm.

A deafening roar is sounded, and you find yourself submerged neck-deep in a pool of flames, confronted by an enormous...something. You're best guess was some sort of demon. One large moving, unified black mass, not even it's eyes pierced through the inky coating. Oh god, and it reeked. It smelled worse than a thousand beached whales. You clasp your hand over you mouth, sucking in what little air you could to prevent yourself from choking.

The beast, or whatever it was, smirked.Or at least, it looked like it did.

"KAI OUV' TEKVOV."

"WHAT?" You scream over the deafening roar.

"KAI OUV' TEKVOV."

"WHAT?!"

"HAPPY BIRTHDAY!."

You wake up, drenched in sweat, to find yourself tangled hopelessly up in your bedding, finding your feet somewhere near your head, and your arm folded in a pretzel shape behind your back.

That, and a perverted old toad was watching you with restrained amusement merely a few inches from your face.

"W-what?"

"I said] 'Happy Birthday'. Sheesh, are you deaf, or did you forget?"

"No, uh, I remember!" You declare, waving your hands wildly. "I, er, just didn't say anything to see if you remembered!"

Jiraiya cocked his head to the side. "But, I'm the one who said it first."

"Smooth, brat." remarked a sarcastic caprine the size of a sofa from a few feet away.

"Yeah, well, anyways" the sage gets to his knees. "Get dressed, and meet me downstairs. I've got a little surprise planned for you today."

"Surprise?!" You instantly scramble out of bed, only to trip, and fall face-down onto the hardwood floor. "What'z it?!" Comes you're muffled response.

He sighs. "You're old enough to know that telling you would means no surprise. Act your age for once. And hurry up." He says, sliding the door shut behind him as he headed for the inn's kitchen. "We're gonna have to eat of the fly."

Not wanting to miss out, you quickly tear your sleepwear off, and jam a loose black tunic on over a mesh undershirt, tile your Hitai-ate, and run after him, dragging Fugi by the neck as you did so.

"Christ, you're eating that? For breakfast?"

I'vef ' canf' 'elp if."

"What?"

You swallow a burning hot mouthful of ramen. "I said I can't help it! He must've rubbed off on me."

"That's not all he did..." Jiraiya mumbles under his breath.

You say nothing, but let out a fustraited growl. "You're one to talk. You practically gave us you're blessing."

"Ah, kami" he closes his eyes, rubbing his temples. "Against my better judgment, might I add."

"Look on the bright side. You got some excellent material for your filthy novels.

"Don't call them that!" he grumbles. "God, you're just like him. It's amazing he's still influencing you even though you it's been forever since you've last seen him."

You fall silent. Jiraiya was right. It'd been nearly an entire year since Naruto, Sasuke, and Shikamaru had been sent out on that reconnaissance mission to the Land of the Wind, nearly a year since Jiraiya had taken you under his wing. (Or more, Tsunade decided that Jiraiya had nothing better to do than train you.).

Nearly a year since he'd a assured you that he'd come back, alive.

"Don't worry, Hitsuji-Chan, I'll be back before you know it!"

The hermit noticed you'd gone quiet.

"Say," he starts, glancing over in your direction. "since I know that you'll in all likelihood figure out what your surprise is, how about I just come out and tell you, huh?"

Your eyes drift up to his, positive that nothing your sensei had to say could drag you out of your depressive onset.

"What?"

Jiraiya steps ahead of you, effectively keeping you from walking any father, with a ridiculous grin plastered on his face.

"We're going back to Konoha."

*thumbs up* Aw I thought the surprise from Jiraiya would be Naruto..... *sighs* Will I ever be reunited with him???? Oh well atleast going back to Konoha! ^.^

Has it really been this long since I updated?

Well, I can't garruntee anything this minute, being so busy with schoolwork and cons, but I've got a few nice little surprises in store for you yet.
