(Dearly Beloved Brother, The Memories Lie in the Picture)
2002-06-01
9 "Do Mew Want to Dance?" 2005-04-23
It's the end of the day at Cafe Mew Mew, and the girls are changing out of their uniforms. Ichigo is sitting off to the side, quite depressed. Lettuce asks what's wrong, and Ichigo says she doesn't have a dress for her date with Aoyama. Pudding says that she should ask Mint to borrow one, and Ichigo does ask. She also decides to go to Mint's house to choose one, and Lettuce and Pudding tag along.
When they walk inside, two lines of maids welcome Mint back home. As the girls are speaking to Mint's grandmother, a boy walks down the stairs. Pudding and Ichigo comment that he's a cool looking guy. Lettuce asks if he's Mint's brother, which Mint confirms when she addresses him. Her brother, named Seiji, brushes past Mint saying that he's busy. Mint ignores his coldness, and takes the girls to her room. She shows Ichigo into her closet, which is quite larger and full of dresses. While Ichigo is looking through the many dresses, she finds a picture of a younger Mint in a dress with her brother clapping. Ichigo finds a cute dress to borrow, and then asks Mint about her brother. Mint says he doesn't go to high school because he'll be studying abroad. Ichigo remarks that she'll be lonely, and Mint tells Ichigo not to speak more on the subject. Mint's grandmother comes by and says that dinner is ready, so the girls go to the dining room.
The girls are eating, and Ichigo asks about Mint's parents. Her grandmother says that they're usually away on trips, and also states that she doesn't like to always be with her family. Mint's grandmother tells Mint to invite her friends to her upcoming ballet performance, along with her father and brother. This causes Mint to get very angry and storm out of the room. Her grandmother explains how Seiji became elite, and Mint has to work hard to live up to people's expectations of her. She tells the girls to take care of Mint.
Back at her house, Ichigo's father tells Ichigo to cancel her date with Aoyama, and Ichigo refuses. Her mother asks where's she's going, and Ichigo says to the library. Her parents start arguing, and Ichigo's mind wanders off to Mint being alone in her house all of the time. Mint is practicing in her room, when she has a flashback to the day her brother was watching her do ballet, and gave her flowers. A few years later, she's talking to her brother about becoming a prima donna, and her brother says she's lucky to only worry about ballet. Mint swears she won't fall behind him.
The next day, Ichigo says that the girls should make Mint's brother go to her performance. Lettuce brings up that Ichigo has a date tomorrow, and Ichigo freaks out. Ryou hopes that another attack won't happen soon. That night, she calls Aoyama and cancels the date in order to help Mint.
The next day, Ichigo puts her plan into action. Kishu is watching from above, and plans to get rid of the Mew Mews today. Meanwhile, Pudding has gotten Seiji's schedule for the day, and tells Ichigo. At the performance, Mint is getting ready, and when her grandmother mentions Seiji, Mint tells her not to speak about it. Ichigo calls Lettuce, and the plan seems to be working. The car that Seiji's in starts to leave, and Ichigo and Pudding run up to it. The car keeps driving, and the girls run after it. It's stopped at a red light, and Pudding jumps on the back of the car, and is thrown off when it moves again. Ichigo jumps onto the front of the car, and yells at Seiji to go see Mint's performance. The car drives off again, ignoring Ichigo's plea. Along the way, Seiji notices a flower shop...
At the performance hall, Ichigo and Pudding arrive exhausted. Ichigo is down because they didn't get Seiji to come, but he suddenly arrives, saying he needs to take a break every so often. The girls and Seiji are walking to their seats when they run into Mint, who tells Seiji to leave. As he is walking to the door, a Chimera Animal appears, with Kishu teleporting in soon after. The bird monster spins around and attacks the girls. As it goes to attack Mint, Seiji jumps in the way and gets hit. Mint gets angry and transforms, along with the other girls. They run out into a larger to fight, and Mint notices the monster's weakness, which are it's knees. Mint dodges and attacks by dancing. The bird changes it's attack by shooting feathers at Mint. Ichigo tries to help, but Mint refuses her help. She weakens it with Mint Arrow, Pudding, Lettuce, and Ichigo attack, and Mint attacks again, killing it.
Mint tells Seiji not to waste his time here, and he turns to leave. A flower drops out of his pocket, and he remembers to give Mint the bouquet he bought for her. He says that she'll always be his important sister, even though they are apart.

This episode was meh. I don't like the original much, anyway. The majors things were the car flipping and the new insert song. Don't have much else to say, other than there were so many alterations and little SDA.

A meh episode.
It must've taken a good deal of time and money to mirror the car thing.
More de-Japanization.
The insert song wasn't so bad, in my opinion. It was bad... But not the worst.
And for my closing... Zoey's hands were very low when she hugged Corina. Whoamg.

Yay for the plot being on today, but boo for all the freakin' alterations.

Seiji's name is changed to Sergio, and he's been upped to going into college.

The Ikumi Ballet Group is renamed the Fairview Ballet Academy. I liked the reference to the original creator.

The Cafe Mew Mew sign is recolored pink. Maybe to match? But white's nice too...

Pudding's locker gets the brush treatment, taking off the kana for her name.

Ichigo's trip to the library with Aoyama was changed to Zoey going to a benefit party for Mark's kendo team.

Ichigo's locker is also de-kana'd.

Pudding's mark is erased from her forehead when she's rolling around Miki.

(1 second) Miki looking at Pudding is longer in the original.

(4 seconds) A pan across Lettuce and Pudding starting to eat is cut.

(8 seconds) Pudding twirling on a ball saying she's doing ballet is cut. And it was cute too ;_;

(43 seconds) The entire scene at Ichigo's house was cut. Ichigo's parents were arguing over their old dates while Ichigo was thinking about Mint all alone. And this cut went over my head until now x.x

(3 seconds) A black screen before Mint is shown writing is cut.

A silly insert song was added to the flashback that Mint has while dancing, and also plays at the end of the episode.

(6 seconds) A shot of the performance hall was cut.

And here is the major edit this episode. To make the car seem American, the entire scene of Ichigo and Pudding chasing after Seiji is mirrored. This box is for the random mirroredness of Mint's house, even when there is NO CAR IN SIGHT. It's back to normal when they show Mint getting ready at the performance hall.

The nameplate on the gate post at Mint's house is edited out in every scene it appears in.

The poster in Mint's dressing room is changed from text to a picture.

When the car with Seiji leaves the house, the mirrorness starts again. This is the beginning of the "Huge Flip Scene"

The front and back license plates of the car have the text "BXWRTH" added to them. Personalized license plates...

(7 seconds) A shot of the street, then the car appearing is cut. Guess they didn't want to flip anymore.

Aaaaaaand...the mirroring ends here.

Mint's mark on her back is painted over.

We get what I like to call the Animal Instinct Transformation today, edited at the end with an insert of the mini-rap.

"I've dealt with these kinds of divas before! I'm a dancer!"

Whatever happened to taking revenge for your brother?

Bridget's attack is called Underwater Surge Attack today. That makes three different names for the same attack.

"We'll see about that, Slimeaclon!"

Um...gigglesnort?

The posters in the hallway all get de-texted and re-pictured.
