7 "Purin Toujou, Mimi to Shippo mo Gei no Uchi"
(Enter Pudding, The Ears and Tail are Part of the Act!)
2002-05-18
7 "Monkey See, Monkey Mew" 2005-04-09
Ichigo is walking back from shopping for the Cafe when she trips and drops everything. She complains about having to do everything, when she decides to take a break in a nearby park. She is relaxing when she sees a group of people watching a girl perform. Suddenly, the girl pops up near Ichigo and does a little performance for her, involving spinning plates, fire breathing, and many other amazing tricks. When she finishes, Ichigo picks up her things, and starts to leave when the girl asks for a tip. Ichigo gives her candy, but the girl starts crying, making people crowd around the two. The girl, named Pudding, makes a shark pop out of a hat, causing Ichigo's ears and tail to pop out. Pudding pulls on them, and Ichigo runs off with her to hide.
While hiding, Pudding bursts out that also she wants cat ears like Ichigo's and asks her to teacher her how to get them. Ichigo makes up some things, and Pudding actually believes her. While Pudding's going around the park on a ball, Ichigo runs off.
Deep Blue asks Kishu to report about the Chimera Animal used in the last battle. Kishu notes that there are still unstable elements in the fusion with a human, so he says he will find another compatible match to defeat the Mew Mews.
Ichigo has run far, far away from the park when she runs into Lettuce, who is looking for her. While walking back to the cafe, Lettuce asks Ichigo what was taking her so long. Ichigo explains about Pudding, when they actually run into Pudding. Ichigo tries to trick Pudding, and runs off again, Pudding in hot pursuit. Everywhere Ichigo runs, Pudding follows. Finally, she gets too tired to keep going. When collapsed, she finds that her handkerchief is missing. Pudding is the one that has it, and she introduces herself to Ichigo as a normal elementary student. Ichigo says that Pudding isn't normal because she wants the cat ears to make money, and she's annoyed, and storms off. While walking back to the cafe, Ichigo thinks that Pudding is following her, when it's really a crow. At the cafe, she argues with Mint about why Pudding wanted the cat ears so badly.
Kishu is seen taking the spirit of a human. He can't seem to find the perfect spirit, though, so he just takes the one from this human as a substitute
The next day at school, Ichigo is feeling a little down. She says that it's not about Aoyama, and is rambling about him when he walks up and surprises her. They go outside, and Aoyama tells her to be honest with her feelings. At the park, Pudding is still rolling around on her ball trying to get cat ears when Kishu shows up. He tells her that he's an angel, but Pudding doesn't believe him. He tries to take her spirit out of her body when Ichigo shows up and transforms. She tosses Pudding's ball at Kishu, sending him flying. Kishu says that only pure spirits can become Chimera Animals, and chases after Ichigo who is carrying Pudding. They run into Mint and Lettuce who attack Kishu. Kishu then makes a Chimera Animal out of the spirit of the woman he found the day before. It's a samba-dancing lizard, which dances around and avoids attacks, then attacks Ichigo and Mint. Pudding suddenly runs in front of the two Mew Mews, and a rock appears in front of them. Pudding's forehead is glowing, and she has monkey ears. Masha spits out a pendant for Pudding, who transforms into Mew Pudding. The lizard attacks again, and Pudding hops around faster than the lizard and attacks with her Pudding Ring Inferno, trapping the lizard in a blob of pudding, leaving Ichigo to finish it off.
The next day at the cafe, Pudding gives Ichigo's handkerchief back to her, and she also starts working at Cafe Mew Mew. Ichigo thinks it means less work, but it seems with Pudding around, they'll be even more work to do!

Bleh, blah, and any of it's variations describe my thoughts on this episode. Like I've asked before, why do the filler episodes get the good treatment while the important character introducing episodes get the crud treatment? Only one of the character intro episodes left, and I bet it'll get the same treatment as this and the others got...
Of course, it's showing the weekend that I'm away. But we'll get to that when the time's right.

They were doing so well. Well, comparatively at least. But what happened with this episode? It's as if they used a different team.
Corny dialogue was abound. Not all of it was SDA worthy, but it was still bad. At least there weren't any real Mew puns.
It will be interesting to see if they cut out the pudding blob every time she does the attack.
I wonder how they'll handle the "Kikki lives in a shelter" thing, since later on they show her home and her family.

For my closing statement, I quote my friend Yuuki. "Kikki is lolicon bait."

The script was really bad today. Kiki's voice is a cross between a whiny brat and an annoying teenager. Kiki also seems to live in a shelter. Yes, a shelter. I can't wait for episode 20 to see what they do.

Ribbon Pudding Ring Inferno is named Tambourine Trench. Yes, the attack makes a trench while flying, but the attack ITSELF traps the enemy in a blob of Pudding. It doesn't make trenches across the enemy.

For some reason, maybe to make the scenes more consistent, the Kishu/Deep Blue scene is moved to the beginning of the episode.

The text graffitti on the walls where Ichigo and Pudding are hiding is erased.

(4 seconds) Ichigo trying to get past Pudding but phailing while on the bridge is cut.

(2 seconds) A snippet of Pudding chasing Ichigo was cut.

(1 second) Ichigo pausing before asking Pudding who she is. I hate snippets.

The dub switched two of the scenes showing Pudding looking all sad-like. The original had the close up one first, and after the eyecatch, the far away one. The dub has the far away, the the close up.

"Kiki, for the last time! Okay, that's a bird! So...yeah!"

The way this line was delievered made it so stupid.

While the original just shows silent still frames from when Ichigo was yelling at Pudding, the dub shows it in color with sound.

Originally, Kishu just took the spirit of the woman because he was desperate and couldn't find a perfect one. The dub has Dren act like it's the kind he was trying to find.

"Guy there...I mean, hi there."

This and the speech before it about a ham and cheese sandwich representing a secret identity. Food comparisons are silly.

(14 seconds) Ichigo blushing when Aoyama leans closer to her, a shot of the clock, Ichigo running, and then a shot of the fountain in the park are all deleted for a random reason.

(3 seconds) Pudding laying on the ground after getting hit by the ball is cut short.

The dub moved the mini-rap from when Ichigo is standing in front of Pudding to right after her transformation. But that's been done before, so meh.

(1 second) The back of Ichigo's head is cut. Because everyone knows backs of heads cause disease.

"I'm gonna stop you the mew way!"

As opposed to the bark way? Or the squeak way?

(4 seconds) Ichigo saying "Mew Pudding" and then Pudding staring at the pendant is cut.

(17 seconds, 1 second, 1 second) Beginning, a snippet in the middle, and end of Pudding's transformation. The beginning cut is the longest one so far, too.

(16 seconds) Pudding's attack makes enemies get stuck in a blob of pudding. The dub cuts this out, and a few other scenes stuck to the cut pudding. Pudding telling Ichigo to attack, and the beginning of Ichigo's attack are also cut.

Dren seems to want to create a Predasite army. If he was doing that...he would actually collect spirits in great masses and then send them out at random instead of getting only one an episode. This is what happens when dubbers change random things.

(6 seconds) The original had a longer ending, the last scene being all cute with Pudding asking for a tip.
