2 "Mew Two" 2005-03-05

Keiichiro and Ryou have taken Ichigo to what she calls a "cute cafe." Keiichiro says that they opened recently, and then whispers to Ichigo that "he" (meaning Aoyama) got home safely. The two men invite Ichigo in, and she remarks at how beautiful the place is. Keiichiro gives a package to Ichigo and tells her to change in the locker room. She refuses at first, but he persuades her. Keiichiro and Ryou talk while she's gone about the Mew Project, and how Professor Shirogane would be happy that it started. Ichigo runs out dressed in a very cute maid outfit, squealing. Ryou says that the costume looks nice, and Ichigo blows up at him. Keiichiro mentions that they'll be together for a long time. Ichigo yells at Keiichiro asking him why all this is going on and what that monster was. Ryou calls it a Chimera Animal.
Ryou explains that aliens are causing this, and the only way to counteract it is with Red Data Animals. Ichigo yells at him saying he was spying on her and Aoyama's date. Ryou ignores her, and says that the DNA Red Data Animals have a strong will to protect their species, so when those animals encounter an alien, they can withstand the attacks of the parasite. Ichigo asks if that's what she is, and Ryou confirms it. She freaks out saying that she'll be a cat, and Ryou just says it's a side effect. Ichigo keeps yelling until Keiichiro takes her hand, and says she could become a famous idol if she does this.
Ryou starts to walk away, and Ichigo asks why it's only her. Ryou remarks that there are four others, each with a mark somewhere on their body. Ichigo searches for her mark and finds it on the inside of her right thigh. She freaks out yet again, and Keiichiro apologizes, then opens up his hands to reveal a pink fluffy thing. It flies over to Ichigo, Keiichiro tells her to take care of R2000, and that he has an alien sensor in him. Ryou then tells her that she'll have to work as a waitress at the cafe. Keiichiro says that they won't get too many people coming, she'll get to eat as many sweets as she likes. She's happy at first, then decides she doesn't want to get fat.
A strange blue light is shown, and it speaks. It wants to take over the Earth. A shadowy figure stands up and agrees. The light says to use whatever means necessary to do so. Ichigo is walking down the street musing to herself when R2000 says that something is coming. Ichigo thinks that it's a Chimera Animal, but it's just a cute little dog that runs through a puddle and then jumps on her. An old lady calls the dog, Miki, back to her. A young girl steps out of the nearby car and picks Miki up. She apologizes for his actions and hands Ichigo a handkerchief to wipe her face with. Ichigo takes the handkerchief and notes that it's soft. The girl says that it's made of silk, and asks Ichigo if she's ever heard of silk before. She, the old lady, and Miki then leave. Ichigo blows up, and R2000 apologizes for the false alarm.
The next morning at school, Ichigo looks at Moe and Miwa and asks them if they have strange marks on their bodies. Then, Aoyama walks up and Moe and Miwa leave, giggling. Ichigo notices a bruise on his neck, and when Aoyama asks her what's wrong, she drops her stuff. While picking it up, they accidentally touch hands. He apologizes, and Ichigo glances in the mirror...and notices that she has cat ears! She grabs Aoyama's head and turns it away, saying there's an alien. Her ears disappear, but...her tail pops out. She quickly picks the rest of her stuff up and runs away backwards, leaving a confused Aoyama. Later, at the cafe, Ichigo rants to Ryou about her ears and tail appearing. She's interrupted by Keiichiro who gives her some food to deliver. She walks out into the dining area, which is full of people, and says she didn't expect the place to be packed.
That night, there's a ballet performance. The girl from before is dancing very well, and gets a lot of applause. Ichigo is sitting outside, and says she should give R2000 a name. She decides to name him Masha after Aoyama. He likes the name, but then says he senses a Chimera Animal. Ichigo sees the girl and the old lady walk out and get picked up by a car. She pulls out the handkerchief and says that she couldn't be a Chimera Animal. Running after the car, she ends up at a very large mansion. When they enter the house, the girl comes downstairs with Miki, who runs up to Ichigo. The old lady leaves, and Ichigo introduces herself to the girl, whose name is Mint Aizawa. Ichigo randomly starts to look around the house, and then asks Masha what he sensed. Mint yells at her for running around the house, turns to leave, and tells Miki not to go near that "vulgar girl."
Ichigo leaves, ranting about how mean Mint was. Miki tries to follow her, but she tells him to go back with Mint before she gets angry. As Ichigo walks away, a parasite is shown floating down. It infects Miki, who walks back into the house a little evil looking. Mint wonders what's wrong, when Miki growls and suddenly grows into a large dog Chimera Animal. Ichigo hears Mint screaming and runs back into the house. Mint is panicking as the Chimera Animal advances toward her. Ichigo decides to transform and fight. She demands that the alien let Miki go, while Mint wonders what's going on. The monster attacks, and Ichigo jumps out of the way, then calls her Strawberry Bell. Mint tells her not to attack and hurt Miki. It attacks anyway, slamming Mew Ichigo into the wall, and sends Mint across the floor, ripping the back of her dress open. Mew Ichigo notices a mark of two wings on Mint's back, and Masha spits out a locket. Mew Ichigo tells Mint that she can also transform, and when the Chimera Animal goes to attack again, Mint transforms. She and Mew Ichigo jump out of the way of an attack, and Mew Ichigo tells Mint to listen to the words from her heart. She calls out her Mint Arrow and uses Ribbon Mint Echo to stun the monster, and Ichigo finishes it off, freeing Miki.
The next day at the cafe, Mint is also given a maid outfit and will work at the cafe as well. She thanks Ichigo for saving Miki, and Ichigo says that they're friends now. Mint then says she refuses to work with someone so vulgar. Ichigo wishes that they could just get along!

This episode...wasn't better than the last one, yet it wasn't worse than the premiere episode. Mint's personality was kicked up a few notches on the snob scale, along with her grandmother. I didn't like Deep Blue's voice, and I still dislike Kishu's. There was less footage cut in this episode, but more pointless cuts. About the transformations...I expect every transformation to be cut in that way.

Another week, another episode. In this week's episode, the number of Mews doubles.
I personally thought the episode was a bit better than episode 1. The script wasn't totally butchered and most of the main stuff was kept.
Transformations were cut again. Imagine how much time and money could be saved if they didn't spend all that time editing them.
Some stupid dialogue, but it wasn't ALL bad. Yes, I almost chuckled at Mini Mew's "Jerk Alert" line. Burn me in effigy if you must.
I thought Corina's voice sounded a bit... old. Like an older, snobby Zoey.
Ichigo's Mew Mark was moved down. I blame the parents for that.
Kari points out that Corina never told Zoey her name... But I think it would be pretty logical for the grandmother to have said it. Still, an interesting catch.
And Mint doesn't wear a bra.

The script for this episode was mostly kept, thank goodness. They did make Mint and her grandmother a little meaner. Well, Mint was snobby in the original, but the old lady was not. She was quite nice to Ichigo, and here they have her call Ichigo a street urchin. Bad granny. Corina is also a tad snobbier.

Miwa's name was changed to Mimi, and Moe's full name is Megan. Still got the M thing going, at least. Also, Miki's name was changed to Mickey, but that was also done in the manga translation, and it's close enough, so I'm not complaining.

Chimera Animals are known as Predasites, and the jellyfish-like things that possess the animals are known as Infusors. Finally got that straight!

Deep Blue speaks for the first time, and his voice is quite a bit lower than the original's was. In fact it's Mark's voice with a computer overlay thing added. Don't want to spoil anything though, so I'll just leave it at that.

Mini Mew speaks a bit more in this episode, and his voice is actually kinda cute and close to the original. Though the music that plays whenever he speaks is annoying.

In the original, Keiichiro told Ichigo that Aoyama got home safely. The dub changes this to Wesley telling Zoey the cafe is her place of employment.

"So you GUYS designed this place? This is your top-secret headquarters? *giggle* It's very manly *giggle*"

Mmm, yaoi hint. And I thought this was a kids show :O

(9 seconds) In the orignal, the shot of the door is longer, and there's also a shot of the ceiling that was cut.

Ooo, purdy

Some of the writing on the magazines during Keiichiro's speech was erased.

Titles and stuff...

Ichigo's mark on her leg was moved down, so that it's not so close to her...yeah.

OMGWTFBBQTACOFANSERVICE

Zoey names Mini Mew right after she gets him, while Ichigo named Masha when she was sitting outside of the building where Mint was performing.

Dren is named in this episode, while Kishu was named at the end of episode 3.

(10 seconds) Ichigo noticing Aoyama's bruise, leaning in, and the close up of the bruise were all cut.

Aww, someone got a boo-boo

(6 seconds) Ichigo musing more about Aoyama was cut.

Aww, she wuvs him

(6 seconds) After they touch hands, Aoyama turns away, blushing, and apologizes. Ichigo blushes more...yup, cut.

He apoliziges, but we all know he wants more

"Hey, so I heard we have this sub today in history that looks just like a lizard, right down to the whole quick tongue flick thing between sentences..."

It was longer than that, but the sound effects were covering his words. No big deal as he was just blabbing about nonsense.

(2 seconds) A shot of the cafe from the outside is DELET'D.

Nice weather, isn't it?

"Why MEOW!?"

Yum, cat pun.

A sign that was hanging behind Mint in the original was taken out. They actually did a pretty good job of it, too.

See? A sign. Oooo

"Should we just put a posting on the internet? It could say something like...uh...uh...I got it! Freak girl who has been transforming into animals seeks team!"

lol internet

(3 seconds) The scene with Ichigo petting Miki is cut short.

(1 second) The black screen after Miki got taken over by the parasite is cut.

Nothing, nothing, nothing -- nothing at all

(5 seconds) A shot of Miki from behind, then the parasite flashing and him growling are cut.

I'd freak too if a jellyfish was in my dog

"So, do you want to go out for pizza?"

Sorry, Zoey, but computers don't eat.

4Kids can't seem to keep track of their own made-up names. In the premiere, the transformation phrase when Zoey transformed alone was "Power Pendant, Activate!" When the group transformed together, it was "Power Pendant, Mew-tamorphosis!" The next episode changed Mew-tamorphosis back to Activate. This episode uses Mew-tamorphosis when Zoey transforms.

Reminds me of the Sailor Moon dub and the ever-changing attack names.

(7 seconds) Beginning of Ichigo's transformation is cut like before.

For some reason, they left the original sound effects of the transformation in, like the bell ringing when Ichigo jumps. They got rid of it last week.

Please explain this logic to me...please?

(3 seconds) And the end of Ichigo's transformation is cut again.

I believe they're using the "Mew Mew style, Mew Mew grace, Mew Mew power, in you face!" mini-rap instead of the pose at the end of the transformation, cause for whatever reason, they moved it to right after Zoey finishes her transformation. In the original, it was shown right after the next cut.

(1 second) A shot of evil Miki roaring gets baleeted.

"Or...no more treats for you!"

Like that huge monster would want little pieces of dog food anyway.

(7 seconds) The beginning of Mint's transformation is cut as well.

More DNA

(6 seconds) A cookie if you can guess what was cut! Except...I don't have any cookies. Anyway, it was the end of Mint's transformation that got cut.

Birdy pose!

"Do it, Corina!"

Now, you may not see anything wrong with line that makes it an SDA. But...Corina NEVER told Zoey what her name was during the episode. So...how could Zoey know?

Corina yelled out "Heart Arrow!" and summoned her weapon. Then silence. No "Full Power!" or anything like that. I...kinda expected something else, but it didn't come.

The spinning in Ichigo's attack was sped up again.

And we're back to the showing clips from the next episode type of preview.
