(Lettuce's Love, Earnest Feelings at the Library)
2002-07-20
15 "Books of Love" 2005-09-24
While running out of school one day, Lettuce says to herself that people have noticed that she has changed, becoming happier. Not only is is from the Mew Mews, it is also from a guy that Lettuce saw helping a woman across the street. She later sees him in the library a few days later. Ever since then, she vists the library to see him. One day, he helps her get a book, even though it was one she didn't want, she accepted it. The two sit down and talk, and he mentions that he took an interest in her. After talking for a bit, he introduces himself as Norihiro Edomurasaki. Today, she returns to the library to see him again.
Later at the Cafe, Ichigo notices that Lettuce is very happy. Ichigo teases Lettuce about finding a boyfriend, causing Lettuce to blush a lot, and tells Ichigo to keep it a secret, but she doesn't, causing the others to run over and question her. All the girls wonder about what kind of boy it is, and ask her many, many questions. Finally, Ichigo asks if Lettuce does love him, and she blushes. The others take it as a yes. Meanwhile, Pie is gathering data on humans, about their bodies and how they perform.
At the library, Norihiro gives Lettuce a book as a gift. Norihiro wishes he could smile as happily like Lettuce does, and Lettuce tells him that he can get rid of his sad thoughts and be able to. Later at the Cafe, the girls bother Lettuce again, wanting her to declare her love to him. They're behind her all the way.
Ichigo and Mint are walking along the road, talking about how it's surprising that Lettuce likes someone. Mint remarks that it's surprising that Ichigo has a boyfriend. Ichigo comes back saying that Mint has never had a boyfriend. Mint says that Zakuro is enough for her. In another part of town, Lettuce runs into the three girls she used to be friends with. They ask why she hasn't been around them, and Lettuce remarks that she's been busy and can't hang out with them, surprising them. That night in her room, Lettuce finally tells herself that she loves him, and makes a box lunch for Noriyuki.
The next day, she goes to the library to find him, but he isn't there. She looks around and waits for him, but he doesn't show up. As she's leaving, he enters. She suddenly hugs him, then apologizes for it. As she says that she's been thinking about him, a group of Chimera Animals attack. Pie orders the Chimera Animals to attack, and they start eating the books. As Noriyuki helps Lettuce escape, a girl, Satsuki, screams. Noriyuki tells Lettuce to go ahead, and thanks her for changing him as he runs to save Satsuki. Lettuce runs to find Noriyuki and finds him helping Satsuki. She is stunned, but helps him take Satsuki out as the other Mew Mews appear. The Chimera Animals attack by reading in a hypnotic voice, giving Pie a chance to attack. Lettuce transforms and attacks the monsters, giving Ichigo the chance to attack, but Pie leaves before she gets hit. The others say that Lettuce helped a lot because she likes reading, and the attack didn't affect her.
Outside, Noriyuki gives an engagement ring to Satsuki. Lettuce and the others watch, and Lettuce says that she's alright. She says that her first love ended sadly, but someday she'll be in love again.

Wow. After the last two pretty good episodes, we get a horrible one. So many cuts, changes, random snippets, scene moves, and even an insert song. Argh.

Poor Bridget. Not only does she get totally screwed over by love, her episode dedicated to it is pretty minced as well. Lots of random cuts and a few big scene moves.

Well, the episode was still about love...just that Zoey and them knew about Bridget's love from the beginning. The episode was changed from a story from Lettuce's point of view to include the others.

Norihiro Edomurasaki's name is changed to Ian. Just Ian. His age is also upped to third year of college.

Satsuki's name is changed to Sabrina.

My mouth did drop open when the episode started. They moved the scene of Mint and Ichigo walking through town at night to the beginning of the episode. They also changed it from talking about boyfriends to talking about work at the cafe, then about how Bridget has changed. The voiceover/flashback that Lettuce originally did is done by Zoey and Corina now.

(7 seconds) These cuts are from the original scene that was moved here. Mint's thoughts of a chibi Mint floating near an image of Zakuro is cut.

I can fly!

(29 seconds) Ichigo's dream about Aoyama is all cut out. We're talking about Bridget now in this scene, not little old Zoey and her silly crush :P

Happy on the beach
What IS this!?
It didn't seem edible...

(3 seconds) Now to the real beginning. Lettuce slowing down to walk past the teacher is cut.

No running in the halls

(12 seconds) Lettuce taking out her shoes, putting them on, realizing she forgot something and running back upstairs is cut. Because American schools don't have shoe lockers *nod*

Shews!

The kana on Lettuce's book sticker is taken off. Kinda weird to keep a shot in of a blank tag.

Here's a kana

(6 seconds) Lettuce running to the library is cut, since it's not from her perspective anymore.

Kana erased off of a library sign~ This happens a few times~

There's a kana

(2 seconds) The shot of the library from outside is cut short.

The title of the book Norihiro pulls down to Lettuce is changed from "Lamaze is not Difficult!" to "How To Tell Him How You Feel"

Because everything has to stick to one theme

The scene before the Cafe with Lettuce entering the library is moved to after the scene with the aliens.

(2 seconds) Ichigo and Lettuce laughing is cut.

Fu fu fu!

This is one of the strangest alterations ever. For some reason, they replaced the shot of a random dancer guy in Mint's thought bubble with Zakuro. Completely replaced with the poster picture used in episode 11.

Bridget or lez bean?

"These humans are proving to be more resilient and complex than others we have fought in the past."

...Okay, WTF!? The aliens have NEVER fought humans until now!

(2 seconds) Lettuce returning a book to Satsuki the receptionist is cut.

The book that Norihiro gives to Lettuce is changed from "Appeal of Taihiti" to "Fiji: A Guide"

It's still pretty

(2 seconds) Lettuce hugging her book is cut short.

(4 seconds) The group telling Lettuce to "take the plunge" before the cute dancing chibi scene is cut.

Dive!

(9 seconds) Lettuce visualizing the beach and sunset from the book is cut.

Even now, it's still pretty

The song that plays in the original episode is named Umi wo Miteta, and it's Lettuce's second character song. It's replaced with a song about crushes. It starts sooner, but ends earlier than the original song.

(7 seconds) Lettuce standing up from her desk and a shot of her apartment is cut.

Stand up and be yourself~

(1 second) Lettuce stirring some liquid in a bowl is snipped out.

Food for love <3

The symbol on the Chimera Animals' hats is painted over.

Blah blah blah

"Not the history section!"
"Let's get out of here before we're history!"

Ha.

(7 seconds) The mini rap and Lettuce smiling when she sees everyone is cut. Surprised about the mini rap.

(27 seconds) Lettuce's transformation in all it's glory is taken out. I'm guessing that it's too hard or costly to paint over her skin or even cut out bits of her transformation, so they just cut out the whole thing. They insert Lettuce's full attack animation into this spot.

Beginning
And end

Lettuce Attack of the Day: Underwater Surge Attack

Pie's sentence before he leaves is moved to after the attack animation. Also, the dub uses the full animation while the original had a slightly shortened one.

(3 seconds) The shot of the forgotten lunch is cut out.

I'd still eat it

(2 seconds) The shot of the sky at the library is cut short.
